San Diego’s People’s Ordinance Reform Heading to Ballot in November

The San Diego City Council voted this week to send a measure to voters to reform the over 100-year-old People’s Ordinance. The council voted 7-2 with Councilmembers Cate and von Wilpert voting no. First created in 1919 and last amended in 1986, the ordinance prohibits the city from charging most single-family residences for trash collection services. SCRHA is tracking the issue and will review the ballot language once available. Read more.

New Form Available for City of San Diego Moratorium

SCRHA has added a new form to help housing providers with rental properties in the City of San Diego. The "City of San Diego Non-Payment COVID Documentation Request" form (#500) is for use when a resident notifies their housing provider that they are unable to pay rent. Under the city's eviction moratorium regarding non-payment of rent, a resident who notifies their housing provider that they are unable to pay rent within 7 days of the rent due date, may avoid eviction if their inability to pay rent is a result of a financial hardship due to COVID-19. Housing providers may request the documentation within 7 days of the resident having provided the required notification. Click here to learn more.
