Chula Vista Council to Discuss Problematic Tenants and Solutions
After a recent violent incident at a Chula Vista rental home, Councilmember Inzunza will be leading a discussion at the Tuesday, October 27, council hearing. No official policy will be voted on; however, the council will be asked to provide direction to city staff on possible solutions. SCRHA is urging Chula Vista housing providers to attend the meeting to share their stories about how laws have prevented the quick removal of problematic and dangerous residents. SCRHA will be recommending that the Tenant Protection Ordinance be amended, namely to align with state law on when Just Cause protections apply. Chula Vista’s ordinance provides protections at day one of tenancy v. 12 months in state law. Make sure you are signed up for SCRHA Action Alerts so you receive notification when the agenda is released, information on how to make your voice heard, and suggested talking points.
