ICYMI: Reusable Screening Report Bill Signed by Governor
Yesterday, SCRHA notified members that Governor Newsom signed AB 2559 from local area Assemblymember Chris Ward. The bill creates a framework for accepting reusable tenant screening reports. SCRHA’s advocacy on the bill ensured the acceptance of such reports is not mandatory and removed an unnecessary disclosure requirement. Click here to read yesterday’s alert. Important Reminder: Anti-Price Gouging Rules in Effect; 10% Rent Cap
The recent heat wave and fires in several areas of the state have triggered anti-price gouging rules, including those specific to rent increases and advertised rents. Rent increases and units first advertised for rent while emergency declarations are in place are limited to no more than 10% over the last rental amount charged, with very limited exceptions. Click here if you missed the SCRHA update and to learn more about anti-price gouging rules.
