Update on City of San Diego Tenant Protection Guide

SCRHA has received word that the San Diego City Attorney’s Office has now opined that the copy of the Tenant Protection Guide that must accompany the mandatory notification required by the Tenant Protection Ordinance (TPO), must be provided to tenants as a hard copy.

  • For tenancies created prior to June 24, 2023, the notification and guide should be served to residents no later than 90 days after the ordinance effective date (June 24, 2023). This gives housing providers until September 21, 2023 to comply.
  • For tenancies created or renewed on or after June 24, 2023, the notification and guide must be provided via the rental agreement or a signed addendum.

SCRHA has again updated the relevant forms. The abridged guide is now available in the Forms Library. The City of San Diego Tenant Protection Guide webpage has been updated to include the updated information and links.

SB 567, Bill to Amend CA Tenant Protection Act Clears Assembly Housing Committee
SCRHA-opposed bill SB 567 (Durazo) cleared its first hurdle in the Assembly. It was all but a forgone conclusion that the bill would pass out of the Housing Committee. SCRHA has already set its sights on the next step in the committee process, Assembly Judiciary Committee. SCRHA will notify members when they can take action and share their voice with their member of the Assembly. Make sure you are signed up for SCRHA Action Alerts
