Supervisors Approve County Eviction Ban & Rent Cap After Hours of Compelling Testimony by Rental Housing Providers

First and foremost, Thank You! We didn't get the outcome desired, but the testimony provided at the hearing made it clear to Supervisors that housing providers are not the "bad guys" and have had enough of one-sided regulation. Your voice was heard loud and clear. There were over 100 callers in opposition to the ordinance.

You may not have won the vote, but you won the debate as far as SCRHA is concerned. The stories of issues related to strict Just Cause, residents who abuse the protections afforded to them, and the desire to keep residents safe were well-stated and truthful!

Thank you again for responding to the SCRHA Action Alert. Members who sent messages via the SCRHA Action Center generated over 500 emails to each Supervisor. That number doesn't even include the calls you made and emails you sent directly!

Now that the ordinance is approved, it is set to go into effect in 30 days. SCRHA will be confirming all the relevant details with County staff. Additionally, SCRHA will be reviewing all options available to challenge the implementation of the law.

Here is the final vote result:

  • Supervisor Nora Vargas (Author) - YES
  • Supervisor Joel Anderson - NO
  • Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer - YES
  • Supervisor Nathan Fletcher - YES
  • Supervisor Jim Desmond - NO
