SCRHA Resident Manager Bill Amended into Study Bill

Yesterday, April 22, AB 1771 (Alvarez) passed out of the Assembly Housing Committee, but only after the author agreed to accept amendments to simply require the Department of Housing Community Development to study the resident manager requirement. The Chair of the committee, Assemblymember Matt Haney, made it clear he did not like the bill and stated he is worried about the loss of jobs. SCRHA is extremely disappointed that our common-sense bill to modernize an outdated regulation from 1961 is not moving forward. The amended bill will now go to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. SCRHA hopes to bring back a reform bill again next year. Tell us your thoughts and email us at info@socalrha.org.

SCRHA Submits Comment Letter Regarding HUD Citizenship Verification

Specifically, it could require housing providers to verify immigration status for all assisted households. This runs counter to state law and would force housing providers to police immigration laws.
