County of San Diego Hosting Workshop on MEHKO Program
The County of San Diego recently made the existing MEHKO pilot program permanent. The Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) is hosting a training on the Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO) program. This training will be held virtually through Microsoft Teams and will include information on the current State allowances for MEHKO operations and new ordinance language updates, as well as the steps needed to obtain a permit, followed by time for questions and answers.

Lemon Grove Council to Consider Emergency Rent Control Ordinance for Mobile Homes
Despite no stakeholder outreach, two members of the Lemon Grove Council brought forward a recommendation for an urgency ordinance to cap rents at mobile home parks. While no supporting documents or specific recommendations were included on the council agenda, the recommendation from the January 16 meeting is for city staff to come back in early February with a draft ordinance that will cap rents at 3% plus inflation or 5%, whichever is less. The ordinance will need 4 out of 5 council votes to go into effect immediately as an urgency measure. SCRHA will be engaging with the Mayor and councilmembers and is already working with its allies at the Western Manufacturing Association (WMA). More to come.
